BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Brooks Houck spent Wednesday night at the Nelson County jail after being arrested on felony theft charges.
The arrest came after officers served a search warrant at Houck's Bardstown home. The same home he shared with his former girlfriend Crystal Rogers.
Houck has since been named the main suspect in Rogers' disappearance but police said the search has nothing to do with that case.
Bardstown Police Chief Kim Kraeszig said, "We were contacted by theft prevention from Lowe's regarding some theft that was occurring at the store and through an investigation that we conducted here at the Bardstown Police Department, that lead to the indictment of four felony theft charges and four misdemeanor theft charges."
Houck was booked into the Nelson County jail on a $25,000 full cash bond.
Detectives from multiple agencies searched his property. Police said its policy to call in help from outside agencies when executing a search warrant in a small town.
Nelson County Detective Jonathan Snow, who is the lead investigator in Rogers' disappearance, confirmed to WHAS11 that he was there and participated in the search.
"Even though it doesn't have anything to do with my daughter, it’s actually showing some of his true colors and the kind of person that he is and I was just very happy about that,” Sherry Ballard said.
Ballard, Rogers' mother, said she finds hope in this investigation even though it doesn't involve her daughter's case.
Ballard said, "This is the first real thing that has happened. He's got by with so much that it’s just been unbelievable. So, I was actually shocked that he was going to jail but it was like a bittersweet moment for me."
Now she is looking to detectives to continue the search for her missing daughter. She’s looking not only for answers but for justice.
Houck is expected in court August 2. If convicted on all charges, he could be facing up to 20-years in prison.
Editor's note: It was incorrectly reported that Brooks Houck would appear in court on August 18. Hiuck will appear in court on August 2.
