Clark County Sheriff’s Office no longer looking for person of interest after fire in Charlestown, Indiana

The sheriff’s office said they received a complaint about a suspicious vehicle, on June 29, in Marysville, Ind.

CLARK CO., (WHAS11) -- A person of interest in a Charlestown, Ind. fire appears to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound on June 29, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said they received a complaint about a suspicious vehicle, on June 29, in the 9800 block of Zimmerman Road in Marysville, Ind.

When officers arrived, they saw a white Ford truck, which matched a description of a vehicle belonging to Charles Croucher, according to Scottie Maples, with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Croucher was identified as a person of interest in a fire on June 28.

Officers approached the vehicle and heard two gunshots come from the truck, Maples said. After hearing the shots, an officer approached and opened the vehicle’s door and tried to disarm the subject, but due to safety, the officer stopped. That officer then attempted to communicate with dispatch about the incident. Maples said that is when the officer heard a third gunshot come from the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said they then found Charles Croucher deceased, from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
