LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Several people gathered at the Berrytown Recreation Center near Anchorage and Middletown on Wednesday for an adaptive and inclusive Friendsgiving.
The Louisville Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation (AIR) Program hosted the dinner, music and crafts for the program participants and their families.
The program offers a wide range of activities for those with intellectual and physical disabilities.
"These events are so important specifically for the adaptive and inclusive community, because there's not a ton of adult programming for this population," organizer Rick Jude said. "And they're an important demographic that needs to be served in our community."
Open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, some of the programs include wheelchair basketball, aqua exercise, bowling, dances and assisted shopping according to their website.
AIR staff also with the Louisville Parks and Recreation to keep accessibility in mind when creating recreation activities and building new development.
