LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The City of Charlestown will be debuting a new spot for teenagers to hangout at the Family Activities Park.
The grand opening for "The Depot" will be Friday, April 26 from 4-9 p.m. with live music, games and food trucks. It will be free and open to the public. Aubrey Tucker is scheduled to perform at 4 p.m., followed by The Mad Taxpayers from 6-9 p.m.
Admission after the grand opening will be $5 per person with a season pass available for purchase.
A variety of bands are booked throughout the summer.
“Many of the bands we have booked are comprised of teenagers,” Carrie Basham, Charlestown parks director, said. “This space is the perfect opportunity for stage time and a chance for local young artists to share their talents.”
The Depot features a stage area for live events including concerts, karaoke, movie showings, and e-sports opportunities. The location also offers a variety of games including table tennis, shuffleboard, corn hole, trash pong and more.
The Depot Café is part of the space, serving a variety of coffees, fruit smoothies, teas, boba teas and snack options.
Officials said students were part of the whole planning process for The Depot.
“Feedback from students comprised of having a safe space to not only hangout, but to enjoy coffees and smoothies,” Mayor Treva Hodges said. “This is a project where we listened to students and built them a place they can call their own.”
The Depot will be open Thursdays and Fridays from 3-9 p.m. along with Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The season will close in October and re-open during Charlestown Christmas City.
