Beloved Louisville bookstore celebrates 10 years of service with parade

Kids who attended the birthday party came dressed as their favorite storybook characters.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A beloved local bookstore threw itself a birthday party Saturday to celebrate 10 years of serving the Louisville community.

Carmichael's Kids, located on Bardstown Road in The Highlands, encouraged children who attended the party to dress up as their favorite storybook character.

The bookstore also held a parade featuring the Captain Underpants character, "Dog Man."

Sarah Cottrell, manager of Carmichael's Kids, says its been nice to grow along with her customers.

"What's been really amazing is to see the kids that have been here when we opened the store all grown up now," Cottrell said. "It's been absolutely crazy. We're just so glad to be part of the community here."

Metro Councilman Ben Reno-Weber also joined the celebration over the weekend, officially declaring Aug. 11 as "Carmichael's Bookstore Day."
