LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The company that owns the semi-truck that crashed off the Clark Memorial Bridge on March 1 is now rewarding the Louisville firefighters who came to the rescue of the driver stuck inside.
On Friday, food distribution service Sysco announced they've donated 1,500 pounds of food to the Louisville Fire Department (LFD), including steak and seafood.
Sysco's CEO Kevin Hourican said it's about showing appreciation.
"I can't even begin to understand what this team behind us went through that day, the stress they must have felt. But we didn't see it, we didn't feel it -- all we saw was a heroic, successful outcome," Hourican said.
At a news conference, Sysco also revealed a $20,000 check to go toward LFD's annual gala. The company said it's also given out gift cards to every firefighter who responded to the scene that day.
It's been three weeks since firefighter Bryce Carden rappelled down the Second Street Bridge to save Sydney Thomas, the delivery driver who was trapped in the cab of the semi-truck dangling 100 feet above the Ohio River.
On Friday, Carden told WHAS11 he's since met up with Thomas to talk in person, saying "she's doing well and she's healing up" from the traumatic event.
"She's trying to stay lowkey, as you can imagine. Anybody is going to be a little bit traumatized," Carden said. "[But] she's doing well, she's spending time with family and she wants to get back to being a driver."
Sysco's CEO also doubled down saying that there's video from inside the cab of the vehicle, showing the crash play out.
The company tells WHAS11 the footage is in Louisville Metro Police's (LMPD) possession for review.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is making repairs to the damaged side of the Clark Memorial Bridge. For crews to do that, the northbound lanes to southern Indiana remain closed through mid-April.
Only the two southbound lanes going to Louisville are open at this time.
