LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A brand new community garden is taking shape in the California neighborhood.
Heaven Hill Brands is collaborating with Change Today Change Tomorrow to build it.
It coincides with the launch of Heaven Hill's Spirited Neighbor Community Grant Program, a $250,000 initiative to bolster the California neighborhood and other West Louisville communities near its Bernheim Distillery.
Outside of building the garden within the space, organizers say they have big plans in place for the entire community space.
Heaven Hill's community relations & diversity coordinator, L.P. Brewer, said we can soon expect gardening, planting and even live music.
"It's going to be a lot of things. There are going to be garden beds that we are going to be putting together and actually starting their garden today, with some sprouted fruits and vegetables and some seeds. It's also going to be a place where they are going to have live music. They are going to build a stage there is going to be some canopies over here for the shade. It's going to be a farmer's market every Sundays. There are a lot of big ideas coming down the pipeline," Brewer said.
Nearly 40 Heaven Hill employees joined other community volunteers to help build the garden.
