LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Fire and EMS stations across Jefferson County are coming together to help communities still recovering from Hurricane Helene's devastation.
The Category 4 hurricane made landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast last week before trekking through several states in the Southeast, flooding towns and killing more than 160 people.
On Friday, Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS (AMFEMS) announced it was partnering with Paul Davis Restoration and several other local fire departments to collect essential toiletries to help those impacted by Helene.
The donation drive runs until Thursday, Oct. 10.
Items in need of donation:
- Paper towels
- Toilet paper
- Disinfectant wipes
- Toothpaste
- Toothbrushes
- Disposable paper plates, bowls and cups
"The community's support will be vital in providing relief to those affected by Hurricane Helene, and we encourage everyone to join us in making a difference," officials said.
Donations will be accepted at all AMFEMS stations and several other participating fire departments including those in Jeffersontown, St. Matthews, Pleasure Ridge Park, Fern Creek, Fairdale, Okolona and Zoneton.
All collected items will be picked up by the Garage Crawlers Auto Group on Friday, Oct. 11 to be delivered to communities in need.
