LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A woman holds the highest position at a Kentucky fire department for the first time in its history.
The Fairdale Fire Department appointed Deputy Chief Carrie Blevins as the department's interim chief.
On Jan. 1, 2025, Chief Blevins will take over the office of fire chief, becoming not only the department's first female chief, but the first woman to hold the position within Jefferson County.
Blevins joined the department in 2004 as a volunteer. The following year, she began her career as a full-time firefighter.
Within the department, Blevins rose through the ranked, most recently as deputy chief.
Chief Blevins will precede Chief Josh Underwood, who is retiring after 25 years with the department.
