LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A beloved Louisville chef died Wednesday after a years-long battle with colon cancer. According to his obituary, he passed away surround with "love and peace."
Anoosh Shariat, 67, was a pioneer in the culinary world, going from Louisville cook to award-winning chef.
His illustrious career included ownership of notable establishments such as Shariat's Restaurant, Browning's Restaurant & Brewery, Park Place on Main, and, most recently, Noosh Nosh and Anoosh Bistro, before his recent retirement in May.
After Shariat was diagnosed with colorectal cancer six and a half years ago, he published a cookbook of his favorite recipes, "Eat Well, Love Life".
He offered his philanthropic support to local organizations including Chefs for Hope, Apron, Inc., Feat, Carriage House, The Louisville Comprehensive Care MS Center, and many, many others.
Beyond his professional achievements, Shariat enjoyed traveling, spending quality time with his family and friends, and sharing laughter.
"He always thought of others first, making him a friend to many and a central figure in his community," his obituary says.
There will be a "Going Away" party to celebrate Shariat on Sunday, Nov. 3, from 3-6 pm at Gilda's Club Kentuckiana.
In lieu of flowers, you're asked to make contributions to Gilda's Club, Apron Inc., or the Colon Cancer Prevention Project, honoring Shariat's enduring spirit and legacy.
