LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A couple in Louisville is significantly richer after they bought a scratch-off ticket during a road-trip.
On Monday morning, Joselyn Bonilla and her husband stopped for coffee at Cave Run Lakemart in Morehead, Ky. while they were driving back home after visiting family in North Carolina.
During their coffee break, they decided to purchase a $10 Cash Double Doubler scratch-off ticket.
“We always look online to see what prizes are remaining when deciding on which one to buy,” her husband said. “This time, we only bought one ticket.”
Joselyn scratched the ticket off in the car, revealing a $6,000 win. As she continued scratching the ticket, she said to her husband, "Hey, there's $6,000 on every spot."
The couple added all the wins up to $180,000. Then, Joselyn flipped the ticket over to scratch off the back, uncovering an additional $45,000.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Joselyn said. “We checked it using the app, and there it [$225,000 prize] was!”
Once they arrived back in Louisville, they visited the Kentucky Lottery headquarters and received a check for $160,875 after taxes.
The couple said they are expecting a baby and winning the lottery will allow Joselyn to be able to stay home.
Cave Run Lakemart will receive $2,250 for selling the ticket.
