Louisville Metro Government hoping to finalize 'Reimagine 9th Street' plans

"Reimagine 9th Street" is an effort to connect downtown and west Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — On Wednesday, the office of Mayor Craig Greenberg presented two ideas for how they want to transform 9th Street.

The "Reimagine 9th Street" plan is a new effort to help connect downtown and west Louisville.

The ideas for how to go about executing this was presented to the Louisville community for their feedback.

The designs hope to convert the road from a six-lane thoroughfare to a more narrow roadway.

One woman who lives in the Russell neighborhood told WHAS11 News that whatever design ends up being picked should have art from community members.

"It would be so nice, too, when you go down, nice to see this building, to see our streets beautified, to be able to look at something that was registered with us that we can take back as memories," Deloren Butler said.

For years, 9th Street as a wide corridor has acted as a barrier between downtown and west Louisville. However, after this project is complete, officials hope it will bring the neighborhoods together.
