Louisville named one of the worst US cities to drive in, Forbes says

Louisville isn't just home to the Kentucky Derby – it's also home to some of the worst drivers in America.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville, Ky. is home to the Kentucky Derby, Louisville Slugger, and apparently some of the worst drivers in America.

A recent Forbes Advisor study revealed that Louisville is ranked the 7th U.S. city with the worst drivers.

To determine which cities have the worst drivers, Forbes compared the 50 most populous cities across the following five metrics:

  • Number of fatal car accidents per 100,000 city residents
  • Number of fatal car accidents involving a drunk driver (blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels of 0.08+) per 100,000 city residents
  • Number of fatal car accidents involving a distracted driver per 100,000 city residents
  • Number of fatal car accidents involving speeding per 100,000 city residents
  • Number of people killed in fatal crashes per 100,000 city residents

Louisville reported the fifth highest number of fatal car accidents involving a distracted driver per resident, according to the Forbes study. Louisville also had the ninth highest total number of fatal car accidents per person and the 10th highest number of people killed in fatal crashes per resident.

Albuquerque, New Mexico was ranked the most dangerous city in America to drive in by Forbes Advisor. Albuquerque has the highest number of fatal car accidents involving a distracted driver per resident and it has the sixth highest amount of fatal car accidents involving a drunk driver per resident.

The Forbes study found that a large metro near Louisville had even worse drivers than the Derby City did. Memphis, Tenn. was ranked #2 in the country for having some of the worst drivers. Memphis had the highest percentage of fatal car accidents in general as well as the highest number of fatal car accidents involving a drunk driver per resident.
