This 'iconic program' in Louisville celebrates women who are changing the world

The Daughters of Greatness series honors women who are changemakers in the arenas of social philanthropy, activism and pursuits of justice.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As part of Women’s History Month, WHAS11 is recognizing people and organizations that uplift.

The Muhamad Ali Center’s outgoing president Marilyn Jackson shares a program close to the center’s heart.

"The Daughters of Greatness is one of our iconic programs here at the center," Jackson said.

The series honors women who are changemakers in the arenas of social philanthropy, activism and pursuits of justice.

“We have typically honored six women a year. The program is in its almost 11th year,” Jackson said.

These women embody Muhammad Ali’s core values as they actively work to realize the Center’s vision for a more just and compassionate world where all of us - whatever our race, religion, or background - can achieve the fullest measure of our greatness.

“I think that Muhammad was such an iconic and pivotal person in the story of our country, to have a Center that honors him and helps people understand who he was and helps them be inspired to accomplish their own journey. That's really what the Center is about," Jackson said. "When Loni and Muhammad built it, they didn't want it to be a tribute to him. They didn't want it to be about their boxing, his boxing career. They really wanted it to be a place of inspiration for people and I think that that's what it's become.”

Past honorees include Elmer Lucille Allen, Dr. Ashley Anderson, Sadiqa Reynolds and Christy Brown. This year’s 2024 honorees are Laura Douglas, Yvette Gentry, Whitney Austin and Marissa Castellanos.

The next Daughters of Greatness will be held on April 12 at the Ali Center.
