LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There is somewhere new in downtown Louisville you can bring your furry friend!
Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP), Metro Government, and TurfMutt Foundation held a ribbon cutting on Thursday for a "pocket park" located behind the Ohio Theatre façade building on South Fourth Street.
The "Bark Park" took over a previously underused large concrete space, according to a news release. The finished project includes fresh sod, decorative fencing and benches, trees and new plantings, and a big, colorful mural of Mulligan the TurfMutt by local artist Kacy Jackson.
“This welcoming new green space provides a new amenity to our Downtown population,” Rebecca Fleischaker, executive director of LDP, said. “Urban areas should provide more opportunities to talk to people, engage in our environment, and to practice the art of hanging out. We know this new neighborhood amenity will be a popular site.”
The park will be open seven days a week from sun-up to sun-down. All dog breeds and sizes are welcome, but officials said owners are responsible for their pets at all times.
The release said the park was funded and designed by the TurfMutt Foundation. According to the website, the foundation "encourages outdoor learning experiences, stewardship of our green spaces, and care for all living landscapes for the benefit for all."
