Power restored at Dosker Manor after nearly two-day outage

Louisville Metro Housing Authority officials say they are working to relocate Dosker Manor residents so this doesn't happen in the future.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After almost two full days, power has finally been restored to all buildings of the Dosker Manor complex in the Phoenix Hill neighborhood.

According to the Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA), the lights were turned back on at about 8:30 p.m. in the "C" building.

Officials say the power was out for just over 44 hours in total, after a sprinkler burst at midnight on Friday.

LMHA said crews had encountered an issue with aging infrastructure which is why repairs took longer than normal.

It's yet another sign for those who live there of the urgency needed to get them out of the complex.

"This place is no good place to live in," said Judy Cecil, a Dosker Manor resident.

Another Dosker Manor resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said all three buildings have severe problems.

"We have bedbugs, we have roaches, we have mold, we have hissing cockroaches, we have the water pipes that bust every other day, if not every day," the resident said. "We don't have a choice but live here because it's all we can afford."

Residents and advocates are calling for reform and move-outs as soon as possible.

"They need to be moved ASAP out of these living conditions," said Black Lives Matter Louisville organizer Chanelle Helm.

Metro Housing has already begun the process of moving people out. The buildings are scheduled to be demolished but there is currently no timeline for the demo.

In a statement, LMHA says in part, "This situation highlights the need for a more permanent solution. We are committed to relocating residents from Dosker Manor to better housing as quickly as possible. This weekend’s events underscore the urgency of our plans to provide improved living conditions for our residents."
