Southern Indiana board votes against controversial solar farm

Critics say the proposed solar farm project would disrupt farm animals and bring down property values.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ind. — After months of back-and-forth, a controversial solar panel farm will not be coming to Jefferson County, Indiana.

A council vote denied its application Tuesday night.

California-based energy company Orion Renewables proposed a plan to build solar panel farms across more than 2,000 acres about 30 minutes west of Madison.

Orion said the solar farm would have provided enough energy to fuel 41,000 Indiana homes.

Critics argue the project would disrupt farm animals and bring down property values.

Since the board voted to deny the application, this halted the plans for a solar panel farm in the community.
