East Louisville Starbucks location unanimously votes to unionize

Baristas at the Holiday Manor store voted 18-0 to join Starbucks Workers United.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — More than a dozen Starbucks locations across the country have won union elections in the last week, including baristas at an east Louisville location.

On Monday, workers at the Holiday Manor store voted unanimously 18-0 to join Starbucks Workers United.  It's the seventh Starbucks location in Kentucky, and fifth in Louisville, to win a union vote, officials said.

The union said stores across the country -- from California to West Virginia -- have won elections to join the nationwide movement of more than 10,000 baristas at over 470 stores.

"I hope the results show how close we are as a working team. How together our thoughts and feelings are," Tommy Parsons, a shift supervisor of eight years, said in a news release. "After some brief conversations with customers, I realize we can bring back a brightness we lost due to changes. Changes that drove us to finally unionize and vote."

"It's no surprise we were unanimous, and we're all so glad that we're on the same page," Asher Kraft, a three-year shift supervisor, said.

According to the release, union partners met with Starbucks at the bargaining table again last month and continue to work toward making progress on a framework intended to form the basis of store contracts.

"Hundreds of delegates representing all union stores are engaged in the bargaining process," Starbucks Workers United said. "The parties are working toward ratified contracts for represented stores by the end of the year."
