Veteran and former WHAS11 News director Jay Crouse celebrates 100th birthday

“I’m doing fine, I can’t believe it,” he said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A very special celebration took place at Churchill Downs.

Jay Crouse celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday.

Crouse is one of the oldest living veterans in Jefferson County.

He began his career in the military as a Navy petty officer, serving in World War II and in the Korean War.

Crouse is also part of the WHAS11 family. He worked at the station from 1952 to 1969 as a reporter, a broadcaster and a news director.

“I’m doing fine, I can’t believe it,” he said.

Crouse also met his wife of 70 years while working at WHAS11. They celebrated their anniversary this past September.

Wishing you a very happy birthday from all of us here at WHAS11.
