Western H.S. releases statement regarding report of 'active shooter'

Neighboring Waller Williams Elementary School also was placed on this highest alert level as a precautionary measure. Both Shively Police and Louisville Metro Police thoroughly searched the school. No threat was found. Both schools resumed normal operations shortly before noon.

ID=72391414LOUISVILLE,Ky. (WHAS 11)--A JCPS spokesperson releases statement on Western High School's behalf saying:

"This morning at approximately 9:15 a.m., Western High School was placed on security level 5 – which means that the school was locked and students were moved to secure locations – following a report of a possible live shooter. Neighboring Waller Williams Elementary School also was placed on this highest alert level as a precautionary measure. Both Shively Police and Louisville Metro Police thoroughly searched the school. No threat was found. Both schools resumed normal operations shortly before noon.

"The safety and well-being of every JCPS student is foremost in everything we do. We take a threat such as this very seriously. Our goal is to keep our schools safe environments where all students learn at high levels.

"In an effort to ensure everyone feels safe, Western has hired three additional security officers to join the two regular on-site officers at tonight's 7 p.m. home football game."
