LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two people were arrested in southern Indiana early Thursday after a police chase that reached speeds of 120 mph.
An Indiana State Police trooper was monitoring traffic on I-65 near the Henryville exit in northern Clark County about 2 a.m. when he clocked a Chevrolet Equinox traveling north at 95 mph. The driver, later identified as 31-year-old Frederick Joseph Lewis IV, of Illinois, pulled off to the right and a traffic stop was conducted.
The trooper also observed one male and one female passenger, and indicators of possible drug use, according to an ISP news release. A second trooper arrived at the scene.
As the first trooper re-approached the vehicle, the driver sped off northbound on I-65. Both troopers pursued the vehicle.
The driver of the Equinox turned off all the lights and continued to drive at high speeds, at times exceeding 120 mph. Officers say the driver also drove down the center line of the highway.
The vehicle exited I-65 at the Scottsburg exit and headed west on State Rt. 56 and led officers on several roadways in the Scottsburg area.
The Equinox struck spike strips on Lake Road just south of 56 and continued north. The vehicle entered the property of a factory, drove through a field and finally came to a stop in a wooded area.
Officers detained Lewis and the female passenger, but the male passenger fled into the woods. The Scott County Sheriff's Department began a K-9 search, while Clarksville police and Clark County EMA conducted a drone search.
A short time later, the male passenger was found hiding behind a nearby factory. He was identified as 25-year-old Christopher Johnson, of Illinois.
Johnson was wanted on a parole violation out of Illinois.
No drugs were located.
Lewis was charged with:
- Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle - Level 6 felony.

- Reckless driving.
