LOUISVILLE, Ky.(WHAS 11) - A woman is facing four charges including murder and arson following a fatal fire at an apartment building on Shanks Lane in Lake Dreamland.
Danesha Peden, 26, was booked into Metro Corrections around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday. Her charges include two counts of murder, one count of arson, and one count of assault.
According to the arrest report, Peden admitted to pouring gas and setting the fire at the apartment building on Shanks Lane Tuesday night.
The arrest report also mentions Peden "acted with intent to cause the death of another person by intentionally setting the fire. Peden acted under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life by intentionally setting the fire."
Investigators said resident Archimeda Riley, 41, died of smoke inhalation following the fire. Sixteen-year-old Savannah Cooper has also died following the fire. The report revealed another juvenile was seriously hurt. That person's name and age hasn't been released, and the relationship to Riley is unclear at this time. Four people were taken to the hospital after the fire, but the condition of the fourth individual is also unclear right now.
Peden made her first court appearance Thursday morning. The whole ordeal lasted less than two minutes, with the judge telling her it'd be a good idea to not say anything and ending the hearing with a strong warning.
“Do not call anybody that’s associated with this crime. Stay away from Shanks Lane," the judge said.
Peden is being held on a $500,000 bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for December 18.
If Peden is convicted of arson, she faces 20 years to life in prison.
