MEMPHIS, Ind. (WHAS11) – One murder, two Sheriffs and dozens of resources all to track down a suspect we're told also shot at deputies.
Twenty-five-year-old James Duffy is facing multiple charges including murder.
Police say Louis Morrison was shot and killed in his Floyds Knobs home Saturday afternoon.
Deputies tell us thousands of dollars in cash was stolen along with Morrison's truck.
A search across two counties ended up with Duffy's arrest, along with his parents Sondra, Todd and his girlfriend Chelsea Wilson.
“The motive at this point was a robbery and burglary, they had taken several thousands of dollars from Mr. Morrison,” Floyd County Sheriff Frank Loop said.
Floyd County is handling Louis Morrison's murder, he was found dead inside his Floyds Knobs home Saturday afternoon.
Information led detectives to the Duffy's residence around midnight which is on State Road 60 in Memphis, Indiana, in Clark County.
“Todd Duffy, James’ father, ran out of the residence, beat on the exterior of a garage, notifying the murder suspect of the officer's presence. The murder suspect then fled out the back door of our garage, our officers then ensued a foot chase at which time the murder suspect shot at the officers, fortunately the officer were not injured or hit,” Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel said.
Both agencies immediately worked together, using K-9 units and helicopters even calling in LMPD.
James Duffy was still at large but Saturday, his parents Sondra and Todd were arrested, along with his girlfriend Chelsea Wilson. Sunday morning detectives say an unsuspecting homeowner helped greatly in their investigation.
“The suspect was found lying underneath a pool table by the homeowner in the garage. The homeowner then confronted the suspect after he disarmed the suspect and held him at gunpoint,” Sheriff Noel added.
The homeowner didn't want to go on camera but tells WHAS 11 he saw Duffy under his pool table, with two guns nearby, disarmed him and told his son to call 911.
Mona Willis, lives near where the suspect was found.
“I'm thankful that we weren't in the home and no one else in the neighborhood was hurt but completely crazy,” she said.
The homeowner's encounter came after Duffy is accused of killing an elderly man, shooting at deputies and breaking into a home in less than 24 hours.
“Pretty upsetting, pretty senseless murder for some pretty awful things,” Willis said.
A wild case that spanned counties and needed help from both the ground and the air.
The two Sheriffs are brothers in law enforcement and say working together is the number one way to keep everyone safe.
Deputies are still looking for a 2014 white Ford F-150 with an Indiana license plate. Detectives say this is the murder victim's stolen vehicle. The number on that is AL-304.
Detectives tell us at least one more arrest is anticipated, no more details could be released regarding a possible suspect.
James Duffy is scheduled to be arraigned in Floyd County Monday afternoon.
After that case is complete we're told Duffy will head to Clark County to face charges or burglary and allegedly shooting at officers late Saturday night.
