Louisville police said five juveniles and an adult were hit by an “exchange of gunfire” in a parking lot outside of a business in Pleasure Ridge Park early Sunday.

Officers said the victims were shot in the 7000 block of Raggard Road around 1:20 a.m. near a strip mall in an area that housed a former Walmart.

Police said the victims were in the parking lot outside of a business where a party was being held.

LMPD had initially said the victims were all juveniles but confirmed Sunday evening that one of them was an adult.

"We're sick and tired of waking up on spring mornings like this Sunday morning and hearing that juveniles just earlier this morning in our city were hit by bullets," Mayor Craig Greenberg said.

Greenberg has already looked at the video from the chaotic gathering.

"I'm no gun expert but it does not sound like a legal gun was used to commit that crime," he added.

Greenberg is calling on lawmakers to put policies in place to end the senseless acts of violence.

"It's just heartbreaking when you see something like kids being shot in a parking lot," U.S. Representative Morgan McGarvey said.

McGarvey is a member of the Gun Violence Task force in Congress. He said they are already working on solutions to tackle one of America’s most serious issues.

“[We are] making sure that we have things like universal background checks, making sure we have things like red flag and other laws that can actually prevent guns from getting in the hands of people that use them dangerously,” he explained.

It's disappointing for Christopher 2X, executive director of 2x Game Changers to hear about the acts of violence.

"When you hear six being impacted like this you know it's sad because you know that the problem is not really necessarily getting better," he said.

All of the juveniles and adult were taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

There are no known suspects.
