$5,000 reward offered to locate vandals responsible for damaging fiber optic networks in Louisville area

Authorities say telecommunications companies in the community have experience vandalism to their fiber optic networks in recent months.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Authorities are asking for help in finding persons responsible for vandalizing fiber optic networks in the Louisville area.

According to Kentuckiana Crime Stoppers, thieves cut through fiber optic cables which caused service disruptions for emergency services and first responders and the loss of internet for residents and businesses in the area. One provider, they said, experienced four fiber cuts in the span of four days.

Authorities believe the vandalism of the cables happened during the early morning hours near walking trails or where utility poles are accessible across the county.

The companies affected by the vandalism are cooperating with police to investigate the incidents and a $5,000 reward is being offered for information that could help identify the vandals responsible.

If you have information, contact Kentuckiana Crime Stoppers Hotline at (502) 582-CLUE (2583) or online at www.582clue.com.
