LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The teen boy killed after a shooting at Pleasure Ridge Park High School during a football game has been identified.

Seventeen-year-old Aaron Esters Jr. died in the hospital nine days after the shooting in the school's parking lot, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.

Another person was injured in the shooting, but Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) said they are expected to survive their injuries.

No suspects have been arrested for the fatal shooting on Sept. 29.

LMPD said at least two suspects were involved, but both were wearing masks and fled before police could arrive. In response, the city is now enforcing a decades-old ordinance that bans the use of masks in public spaces in an effort to curb violence.

Will Pitts, Esters' cousin, runs the youth violence prevention nonprofit Shoot Balls Not Guns. He said although the family is mourning, they're fighting for solutions.

Pitts told WHAS11 on Tuesday that enforcing the ordinance is a slight step in the right direction, but just one of many towards a future without gun violence.

"When I see guns hanging out of people's pockets, that's more alarming than someone in a mask," Pitts explained. "There's more work to be done."
