LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An hours-long SWAT standoff in the Algonquin neighborhood has ended with police still searching for answers.
According to LMPD, the incident began around 2:15 p.m. Sunday after 911 received a call about a shooting in the 900 block of Algonquin Parkway.
LMPD 4th Division Commander, Major Tiffany Tatum, said responding officers quickly learned the victim had been taken to St. Mary's Hospital by "private means."
"That victim is believed to be a man in his early 20's suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm," LMPD spokesperson Matt Sanders, said. "He was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, now listed in stable condition."
Witnesses told officers the alleged shooting suspect may have been hiding in a nearby home in the 900 block of Algonquin Parkway, near Colorado Ave. 4th Division Officers established a perimeter and called for SWAT to respond, beginning an hours long stand off.
"The SWAT team began hailing and after a substantial amount of time, that's when the SWAT team entered the location," Major Tatum said. "It was determined that this suspect was not inside the location."
Officers believe the suspect stopped inside the home but left before law enforcement narrowed in.
LMPD said the Non-Fatal Shooting Unit will continue the investigation.
"We always need our neighbors to help us," Major Tatum said. "They're partners with us [LMPD]--as far as solving crime--so we need them to provide us with information."
