LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police officers have arrested the man accused of killing a Louisville mother in May 2023.
According to a news release, authorities arrested Maurice Byars, 33, without incident around 2:30 p.m. on Friday in the 1200 block of South Preston Street.
Police said they received an anonymous tip about his whereabouts after a news conference earlier this month.
Byars is charged with murder and robbery, both in the first degree.
He pleaded not guilty in court on Saturday.
The victim, Amanda Miller, was shot in a CVS parking lot at the intersection of Preston and East Broadway. It happened on May 29, 2023 around 7:30 p.m.
"LMPD wishes to thank the community member(s) and each media outlet who made this apprehension a reality - furthering the cause of achieving justice for Amanda Miller and her loved ones," authorities said.
Amanda Miller's mother said she was trying to break up with Byars before she died.
Byars' bond is set at $175,000 cash. He was ordered to have no contact with Miller's family.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 29.
