PRINCETON, Ky. — A statewide Amber Alert has been canceled for a missing 5-year-old girl from Princeton, Kentucky after her mother was found shot and killed.
UPDATE: Lela Black, 5, has been found safe as of Monday afternoon. Her father, 42-year-old Byron Black, has been taken into custody, according to Kentucky State Police.
On Sunday, police discovered the body of Byron's wife, Kelly Black following a welfare check at a Princeton residence. Authorities said Kelly had been shot in the back of the head and determined she had been murdered.
According to KSP, Byron had left the scene prior to law enforcement arriving at the scene. Police said neither Lela nor Byron had been heard from since Friday, Jan. 26 and an Amber Alert was issued early Monday morning.
In the original alert, KSP officials said Byron Black was believed to be "armed and dangerous."
Police said he was potentially driving a white 1996 Chevrolet Silverado with the California license plate 5J83779. There is paint peeling off the hood of the car.
Byron is described as standing 6 feet tall and has brown hair and brown eyes. Lela is 3-foot-6 and also has brown hair and brown eyes.
