HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. — Authorities arrested a man they believed to be armed, who they say had fled from state police and into a cornfield on Thursday.

Kentucky State Police dispatch said officers arrested the suspect, who then surrendered on the interstate.

Chris Denham, the public affairs officer for the Elizabethtown Police Department, said that happened just before 7 p.m.

KSP Trooper Scotty Sharp confirmed there was a chase that ended in a crash near mile marker 84 on Interstate 65. Sharp said  the pursuit came out of Bowling Green, and that KSP troopers in the area were notified around 4:08 p.m.

KSP dispatch said the suspect got out of the wrecked vehicle and fled on foot into a cornfield.

They had asked people to avoid the area and to lock any doors if they were nearby, and warned that a portion of I-65 was closed.

A BlueOval SK spokesperson confirmed they were also on lockdown.
