Coroner identifies bicyclist killed in hit-and-run near University of Louisville campus

Police are searching for the driver who struck a bicyclist with their car and fled the scene Thursday evening.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a man was killed while riding his bike in Louisville on Thursday.

At about 10 p.m., Louisville Metro Police responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the 2300 block of South 3rd Street near the University of Louisville campus, according to an LMPD news release.

Investigators believe 61-year-old James Brewster was riding his bike, traveling southbound in the right-hand lane of 3rd Street, when he was struck by a car also traveling southbound. The driver of the car didn't stop to render aid to the bicyclist and instead fled the scene.

EMS was called to the scene and transported the victim to UofL Hospital where Brewster would die shortly after his arrival.

Authorities say they currently don't have a vehicle description from the hit-and-run.
