LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) is conducting a death investigation after a body was found near the Ohio River early Monday morning.
Around 9:15 a.m., MetroSafe was notified by the Coast Guard that someone reported seeing a body in a wooded area near the Ohio River's shoreline and the Louisville and Indiana Railroad Bridge.
The bridge, located just north of the Portland neighborhood, is also known as the Fourteenth Street Bridge.
Officials said LMPD's River Unit and Louisville Fire and Rescue teams responded to the location and found a body. The person's identity is unknown at this time.
LMPD's Homicide Unit is handling the ongoing death investigation. Police said an autopsy to determine the person's cause of death is pending.
