Couple charged with voyeurism at Charlestown massage parlor

Officers began the investigation in late January when a woman reported finding a camera inside the room set up as a massage room.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Southern Indiana authorities are still looking for people who visited a massage parlor in Charlestown.

Charlestown Police arrested the massage parlor's owners, Bernard Allen Vlach and his wife, Cynthia, at their home on High Street on Thursday.

Officers said they began the investigation in late January when a woman reported finding a camera inside the room set up as a massage area.

"I thought 'oh my goodness not in our neighborhood.' that's what I thought," neighbor Judy McCawley said.

Investigators said they discovered videos and images of people receiving massages, many of whom were naked, and said many of the videos also showed Cynthia engaging in sexual activity with clients.

Both are charged with felony voyeurism; Cynthia is also charged with prostitution and engaging in massage therapy without a license.

McCawley has lived in the area for nearly 53 years and remembers a time where she knew all of her neighbors.

"We've seen a lot of things come and go and we've seen a lot of people come and go," she said.

In a social media post, the police department wrote "we want to emphasize that this investigation sought to provide justice for the individuals who went to that residence to receive a legitimate massage and were recorded without their knowledge and consent in their most vulnerable state. Those victims did not do anything to deserve such an invasion into their privacy."

The McCawley's now feel safer since the couple has been caught.

"I'm glad to see change but somethings I would've like to keep it the way it was where people know each other and care about each other," McCawley said.

Charlestown police encourage anyone who visited the Vlach's residence to contact either:
