Documents show Louisville's latest homicide victim was living in fear

Just one day after Hansford's murder new details emerge that he was living in fear. An emergency protective order, filed in the Jefferson County Court late in June shows Hansford's signature and the words "I am afraid for my child's safety, as well as my own."

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- Documents uncovered by WHAS11 reveal new details about Louisville's latest homicide victim, Brandon Hansford. The 29-year-old father filed an emergency protective order less than a month ago against a man he said was stalking him.

Just one day after Hansford's murder new details emerge that he was living in fear. An emergency protective order, filed in the Jefferson County Court late in June shows Hansford's signature and the words "I am afraid for my child's safety, as well as my own."

"Shock, nightmare, wake up. It’s not happening,” Kathy Hansford, Brandon’s mother, said.

Kathy Hansford said she recognizes the name listed on the document and thinks that could be her son's killer. She said Brandon has had issues with him for several months and filed the EPO as a last resort.

WHAS11 has chosen not to reveal the man's name since police haven't said if he's a suspect, but Brandon identified him as a co-worker's ex-boyfriend.

On the document Hansford claims the defendant "physically assaulted" him and had him "physically assaulted by another person". It also details an interaction between the two men, in which, Hansford said the defendant "blocked the exit" of Hansford's work place while Hansford was trying to leave, then started to "walk towards him”, eventually stopping after he saw Hansford's child and then backed away saying "you’re lucky your son is with you".
That’s the incident Kathy Hansford said made her most nervous for her son's safety, fearing the worst may happen.

"I prayed that it never would,” she said.

Police said they are still working this case. They could not tell us if or how they are using the documents as part of the investigation.
