BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WHAS11) The owner of Knob Creek Gun Range is telling more about the night a 21-year-old was found shot outside his business.
Donesha McStoots flagged him down last Friday night. He said she tried to stand up and walk but collapsed.
Kenny Sumner then helped McStoots into his vehicle and drove her to Southwest Hospital. Sumner told WHAS 11 when he found the young woman, she had been shot in the chest and doused with acid.
Her father and her family released separate statements on McStoots' death Monday.
Father's Statement:
'I would like to thank the man Kenny [Sumner] who found my daughter on the gravel road. I am relieved and grateful that she didn't have to suffer and die alone. I have so many emotions running thru [sic] me, I am heartbroken. I hope Justice will be served in one way or another.'
Family Statement:
'We are sadden [sic] by the [loss] of our beloved Donesha. Never would we have imagined something like this. She was a beautiful young lady who didn't deserve to have her life taken by such a heartless act and way, [too] soon. We all have faults but only evil person(s) would do such harm to someone, a Young woman at that. Being so heartless and putting a family [through] the grief. How does anyone sleep at night after this? We sure are not. We just ask anyone with any information, a car, the last person she spoke to or seen to please come forward. Help our family find justice. We know she is resting now and at peace. Our hearts are heavy.'
Homicide detectives at the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department said they are investigating and following up on 'very active' leads.
