Michael Dewitt admitted to carjacking someone at gunpoint in March 2021. He stole a Ford F-350 sped toward Louisville, hitting and killing Madelynn Troutt.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —  A man pleaded guilty in federal court on Wednesday to a carjacking that led to the death of a 17 year old.

Madelynn Troutt was killed on Dixie Highway when a driver was speeding the wrong way.

That driver was identified as Michael Dewitt.

He admitted to carjacking someone at gunpoint in March 2021. He stole a Ford F-350 from Simpsonville and sped toward Louisville, hitting and killing the teenager.

At the time, Dewitt was out of jail on bail, just one week before this crash.

Dewitt will be sentenced in January; if his plea deal is accepted, he will spend 29 years in prison.

He still faces state charges of murder.
