'Another child has to grow up without a parent': 1 killed, 3 injured after shooting in Fern Creek, police investigating

Timothy Jennings said his heart dropped when he came home from the store and saw about a dozen officers in his apartment complex Monday night.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One man is dead and three men are hospitalized after a fatal shooting Monday evening in the Fern Creek neighborhood.

At about 11:40 p.m., Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) responded to a shooting in the 5500 block of Overbrook Woods Place, according to an LMPD news release.

Officers on scene found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers performed life-saving measures on the victim until Emergency Medical Services could arrive. Once on scene, EMS pronounced him dead.

Officers also found two more men suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene. Both men were transported to UofL Hospital where officials believe they will survive.

In an update Tuesday morning, LMPD said a third man was found suffering from a gunshot wound inside the apartment. He is also expected to survive.

"I was shocked because I was like, it's normally quiet over here," said Timothy Jennings.

Jennings said his heart dropped when he came home from the store and saw about a dozen officers in his apartment complex Monday night.

He's lived there for nine months and said it's rare to see violence around the area.

"I feel bad for that family, man, that's crazy; another child has to grow up without a parent that's wild, man," Jennings said.

At the end of the day, Jennings hopes more people put their guns down.

"I want everybody just to stop the violence and keep the peace because we have to have unity among each other," he said.

LMPD's Homicide Unit is handling this investigation. There are currently no known suspects.
