Former JCPS teacher pleads guilty to 37 child sex abuse charges

The Commonwealth's Attorney said 52-year-old Christopher Morris pleaded guilty before his trial was scheduled to begin.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — More than two years after a former Jefferson County Public Schools teacher and coach was indicted on multiple sex abuse charges, he has pleaded guilty.

According to the Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney, Christopher Morris plead guilty before his trial was scheduled to begin.

The 52-year-old was charged with two counts of unlawful transaction with a minor, 13 counts of sexual abuse and 22 counts of sodomy.

Prosecutors said two victims, whom Morris coached in basketball, induced them to engage in sexual conduct when he was in a position of authority over them by being a JCPS employee. One of the victims was sexually abused between 2012 and 2015 while the other was between 2019 and 2021.

Morris served as an Instructor I was Conway Middle School and was also a basketball and volleyball coach there. He had been with the district since 2005 but was fired in August 2021.

“Adults should serve as protectors of our children, not predators towards them. This is especially true if they are in a position of trust,” chief prosecutor Gerina Whethers said.

Under the plea agreement, Morris is expected to receive two 10-year consecutive sentences.

He is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 4.
