Jeffersonville business owner arrested on theft charges

Indiana State Police said Frankie Garrett, owner of Garrett's General Grocery in Utica, was taken into custody on Monday.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — A southern Indiana business owner has been arrested on several felony charges.

Frankie Lee Garrett, 51, is facing corrupt business influence, and multiple counts of theft and failure to remit sales tax.

Indiana State Police said the arrest of Garrett stemmed from an investigation that began in December 2021 after their Special Investigations Section received information about possible illegal activity by Garrett.

Garrett, police said, was the owner of Garrett’s General Grocery in Utica near Jeffersonville.

Investigators combed through records including business and tax documents.

Following the investigation, ISP and Indiana Department of Revenue investigators believed that Frankie Garrett failed to report more than $40,000 in taxable sales from 2019 to 2023.

Their findings were then sent to the Clark County Prosecutor's Office.

Garrett was arrested and taken into custody on Monday.
