CLARKSON, Ky. — A Grayson County sheriff found two wanted felons sleeping inside a vehicle in the middle of a roadway Thursday morning.
At about 8 a.m., Grayson County Central Dispatch received a call that a blue car was in the center of the roadway on US-62 in Clarkson, Kentucky, according to a Grayson County Sheriff's Office news release.
The caller told dispatch there were two people asleep in the backseat of the vehicle with a dog in the front seat.
When Sheriff Norman Chaffins arrived on scene, he found a man, later identified as 42-year-old John Absher of Bunker Hill, Ind., and a woman, identified as 34-year-old Casey Lester of Tollesboro, Ky., who were woken up when the dog started to bark.
Shortly after Absher and Tollesboro exited the vehicle, the driver on the vehicle, 47-year-old Richard May of Harold, Ky., returned to the vehicle with a gallon of gas. He told Sheriff Chaffins they had run out of gas in the middle of the road. He then began throwing up in the center of the roadway.
While he was throwing up, Absher reportedly fell face-first on the asphalt and began having a seizure. One of the occupants of the vehicle told Sheriff Chaffins that she believed Absher used opioids earlier that morning.
Sheriff Chaffins administered three doses of Narcan to Absher. He was then treated at OH Twin Lakes Hospital and later transported to Norton Hospital in Louisville where he will be treated for his seizures. Once he's medically cleared, he will be lodged in a detention center.
Both Lester and Absher initially gave police a false identify and through the investigation, police discovered that both of them active warrants out for their arrest.
Lester is wanted for parole bond violations for public intoxication, promoting contraband, possession of a controlled substance (Meth), burglary and theft by unlawful taking. She was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
Absher was wanted out of Jefferson County, Ky. for two counts of failure to comply with sex offender registry, promoting contraband, possession of controlled substance (Meth), violation of registered sex offender restrictions, receiving stolen property and giving an officer a false name and address.
The driver, Richard May, was the only person in the vehicle who wasn't wanted for arrest. After a K-9 search, officers found methamphetamines in a small baggie inside a "snuff" container on the console, according to the news release. May was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center and all three occupants were charged with possession of a controlled substance (Meth).
The dog in the front seat was picked up by Animal Control and lodged in the Grayson County Animal Shelter, authorities say.
