Suspect accused of pointing gun at LMPD officers booked into jail

Jaron Bobbitt, 38, is facing charges including wanton endangerment of a police officer and assault.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The suspect shot by a Louisville Metro Police office Monday in the Wyandotte neighborhood is out of the hospital and booked into Metro Corrections.

Jaron Bobbitt, 38, was charged with wanton endangerment of a police officer, assault, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and fleeing or evading police.

A heavy police presence arrived in the area of Camden Avenue and Beecher Street about 3 p.m. due to an "ongoing investigation," according to a post from LMPD on X, formerly known as Twitter. Residents were asked to avoid the area.

During a news conference, Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said officers were responding to a domestic violence call and encountered Bobbitt armed with an "AR-style" pistol. She said he led officers on a foot pursuit through a residential area and pointed the gun at officers.

Ofc. O'Sha Rogers fired and wounded Bobbitt; the chief said officers rendered aid to him immediately, before he was taken to the hospital.

A heavy police presence arrived to Louisville's Wyandotte neighborhood Monday, Nov. 13.

Bobbitt was given multiple verbal commands to drop the weapon, which was illegal for this person to own, according to the chief.

"This is yet another example of an individual illegally possessing a firearm in our city," Gwinn-Villaroel said. "We are fortunate no one else was hurt."

Anyone with video of the incident is encouraged to share the footage by calling 574-LMPD or visiting this link.

Body camera footage will be released in 10 business days, according to police.
