LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A suspected hit-and-run driver turned himself in Tuesday morning after he says he fatally struck a bicyclist with his vehicle and continued driving.
At about 12:40 a.m., Louisville Metro Police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck near the intersection of Preston Highway and Durrett Lane, according to an LMPD news release. The report was later revised to say a bicyclist was instead struck.
Investigators believe a bicyclist was traveling northbound on Preston Highway when she was struck by a black pickup truck that was also traveling northbound on Preston Highway. The driver of the pickup did not stop to render aid to the victim and continued northbound.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on scene pronounced the victim, an adult woman, dead. The coroner's office later identified the woman as 39-year-old Jennifer Davis.
Shortly after, a man called MetroSafe to inform officials that he had been involved in a collision on Preston Highway police said. LMPD officers responded to the 3300 block of Preston Highway where the driver had stopped.
Investigators believe the vehicle and driver in question were involved in the fatal hit-and-run at Preston Highway and Durrett Lane. The driver, an adult man, has been questioned by police and charges are pending. LMPD's Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
