LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Indiana State Police are investigating after a deadly shooting in rural Harrison County left two people dead and another person injured Friday.
Police said Harrison County officers along with state troopers were called to a home in the 3000 block of Mosquito Creek Road near Laconia.
Police found a 56-year-old Marion Young who had been shot in the arm but ran to a nearby home to report the shooting. He was taken to the hospital in Louisville for treatment. Young’s injuries are non-life threatening.
Police went to the home to contact the two others at the home where the shooting happened but could not get a response.
After checking the home further, police said they found an elderly man and woman lying outside the back door of the home. They were later identified as 84-year-old Donald Ray Weaver and 82-year-old Virginia Scoffield, who is the mother of Young.
In their ongoing investigation, police believe Weaver and Young had some type of argument earlier that evening. Young had gone outside of the home and when police said Weaver followed, pulled out a gun, shot at Young which struck him in the arm.
Police said after Young went to a neighbor’s house to call police, that’s when more gunshots could be heard coming from the house.
Police believe Weaver shot and killed Scofield, who also stepped outside of the house during the initial shooting. Weaver is believed to have then turned the gun on himself.
Autopsies will be conducted on both victims.
