INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis doctor had his license suspended again after he was charged with 114 counts of violating laws regulating his medical practice and controlling substance prescribing.
The Indiana Medical Licensing Board suspended Dr. Scott Mimms’ license for a minimum of two years on Thursday, Oct. 24.
Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita’s office filed an administrative complaint against Mimms with the board on April 24, 2024.
The Indiana Medical Licensing Board found that Mimms failed to "exercise reasonable care and diligence," unlawfully prescribed Schedule II controlled substances for weight loss and performed surgeries with anesthesia without the proper accreditation.
The state called Mimms "a clear and present danger" after one of his patients died the day after having liposuction in November 2022. This was the first time his license was suspended, and it was suspended for 90 days.
The attorney general's office said it received the first complaint against Mimms in August 2022 — followed by 34 other complaints.
“Hoosier patients have the right to expect their doctors to put their safety and well-being at the top of the priority list,” Rokita said. “When a physician performing surgery demonstrates reckless disregard for basic standards of care, he or she must be held accountable.”
