TAYLOR CO., Ky. (WHAS11) -- A riot at the Taylor County Detention Center, around 1:05 a.m., on July 31 yielded significant damage to the interior of the center and led to multiple inmates being removed and transported to the Marion County Detention Center.
The Kentucky State Police said a disturbance had started in one cell housing 37 inmates and many of them covered the cameras during the riot. They also detached a steel bedframe from the floor and used that, with other objects, to destroy the cell wall. The frame was also used to try and breach the door.
There was major damage to the wall and the wall around the door. KSP their actions almost created a breach to the hallway.
KSP said the Taylor County Detention Center is now safe and operational. No injuries were reported or found.
The incident is under investigation by KSP Trooper Dexter Colvin. Criminal charges are imminent.
Once law enforcement arrived at around 1:10 a.m., they were able to regain control of the inmates.
