CRESTWOOD, Ky. — A Louisville man is charged with kidnapping after a woman jumped out of his vehicle last week in Oldham County.
On Oct. 27, Oldham County Police arrested 25-year-old Jacob Schneider. He is facing several serious charges.
According to his arrest citation, a woman told officers she is a friend of Schneider’s and had stayed at his home in Jefferson County the night before.
She explained that Schneider was “jealous” of who she was texting and that he had grabbed her phone out of her hand earlier in the day. The woman said she ran outside and yelled for neighbors to call for police, but he was able to convince them everything was alright and gave her back the phone.
Police said she then asked Schneider to take her back to her mother’s house in Centerfield. He agreed and she got into his car along with her dog.
The citation said the two continued arguing in the car. She told officers that Schneider stopped the car near the Echo Valley subdivision, and she got out, but he convinced her to get back into the vehicle.
As they neared her mother’s house, the woman said Schneider took a wrong turn and she began screaming for him to stop. She told police he instead went faster, driving recklessly down Highway 22 toward Crestwood.
At some point she was able to call the police, but Schneider allegedly grabbed her by the neck and took the phone away from her. He told dispatchers everything was fine and hung up, the citation said.
Police said the woman then opened the passenger door and began screaming and waving at other drivers. As Schneider turned down Glenarm Road, the woman noticed a vehicle following them and the driver trying to help, so she jumped out of the car with her dog.
According to police, the woman and dog suffered minor injuries. She said Schneider followed her to the witness’ car before getting back into his vehicle and driving off.
Shortly after the woman managed to escape, an Oldham County Police officer arrived on scene and saw Schneider’s vehicle. The officer said Schneider drove into the grass to avoid police and fled at a high rate of speed. Police said he was driving in a “reckless manner.”
Following a brief pursuit, Schneider eventually came to a stop at the intersection of Old LaGrange Road and North Camden Lane. He then got out of his vehicle and was arrested by police.
Schneider is charged with kidnapping, fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, intimidating a participant in the legal process, fourth-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, and two additional counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer.
