JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Jeffersonville City Council President Matthew Owen has been arrested for drunk driving.

An Indiana State Police trooper pulled Owen, 29, over in downtown Jeffersonville at 2:45 a.m. for driving 44 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour speed zone. Owen's BAC was .154, almost twice the legal limit of .08.

Owen is in his second term as city council member, and was previously president in 2016. His biography on the City of Jeffersonville's website said Owen works as an EMT and volunteer firefighter.

In a statement, Mayor Mike Moore said he has spoken with Owen.

"He regrets his actions and realizes he made a poor decision," Moore said.

City Council Vice President Scottie Maples said the council has not received all of the details of Owen's arrest, and will not comment at this time.
