Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - A teacher at John Hardin High School has been arrested on charges of disorderly conduct during a basketball game on February 26.

Elizabethtown Police Officers were conducting security for a Elizabethtown High School versus John Hardin High School basketball game when a disorderly person behind the John Hardin bench was reported.

The referee requested this person to be escorted from the gym. Officers made contact with the person, later identified as 36-year-old Leslie A. McCurrry of Elizabethtown. McCurry was asked to calm down by officers, who reported that she did not. When advised that she needed to leave the gym, it is reported that she refused. Officers state they gave McCurry these instructions multiple times and that she refused to follow them.

When an officer attempted to arrest McCurry, the officer reported she refused to comply with the officer's demands. When the officer went to place handcuffs on her, reports indicate she refused to place her arms behind her back and kept pulling away.

McCurry was eventually handcuffed and then lodged at the Hardin County Detention Center on charges of criminal trespass, menacing, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

McCurry is listed as a social studies teacher on John Hardin High School's website. The school released this statement following McCurry's arrest:

Hardin County Schools is aware of Ms. McCurry's arrest and the charges against her. The matter is under investigation. We will allow the legal process to take its course.

Our district has high expectations for its staff and students and believes individuals should accept responsibility and be held accountable for their actions. As expected, our community places an elevated standard on those with the title of teacher and leader. We also know that students look up to their teachers as leaders in and out of the classroom. Whether in the classroom, a school or community function or personal activity, we hope that members of the HCS family represent themselves and our district in a professional manner. We are disheartened and embarrassed when actions occur that are contradictory to these characteristics.

She has since been released from police custody.
