Judge sets bond at $2 million for Bullitt Co. mother accused of killing her two young boys

Tiffanie Lucas, 32, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder for the death of her children. She plead not guilty in court.

BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. — The Bullitt County community is mourning an unthinkable loss after two young boys were killed Wednesday.

Kimberly Smith, a mother of four who lives down the road, placed a stuffed bear and tiger in memory of the children.

"I knew I wasn't the only one feeling the pain for their families," Smith said. "I had to let them know, whether in spirit or not, and their family know, that we're praying for them. And hope they get through this. It's gonna be a long, hard road, but we're praying for them."

Emergency radios captured some of the horror: "Two juveniles laying on bed covered in blood. There is a gun on the bed. Male is breathing, there's a shell casing on the bed next to the gun."

All of it, discovered by someone living nearby.

First responders set up an escort to Norton Children's Hospital, but sadly the children died when they arrived.

The boys' mother, 32-year-old Tiffanie Lucas, is charged with murder. She plead not guilty in court. Judge Jennifer Porter set the mother's bond.

"And after reading through the citation, noting the charges specifically—two Class A felonies of murder—the court is finding her to be a danger to others and will set a $2 million dollar bond," Porter said.

With Lucas held at Bullitt County Detention Center, her two boys, known to play in their neighborhood, are gone from the yard and the sidewalks. It leaves the community wondering—why?

"Horror. And what was she thinking? And how did she get to the point she was at? Was there no help for her? Did she not want help? That's all. I mean, something is clearly not right," Smith said.

Without knowing what went wrong, the only certainty now is the heartbreak felt at the loss of two beautiful, innocent lives.
