LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville-area mother accused of shooting and killing her children will stand trial later this year.
Tiffanie Lucas appeared in Bullitt County Circuit Court Monday and a judge set her trial date for Dec. 17. Lucas previously pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder.
Lucas was arrested last November after police found her two sons, 6-year-old Maurice Baker Jr. and 9-year-old Jayden Howard, dead inside her Bentwood Drive home in Shepherdsville.
Police were called to Lucas' home on Nov. 8 and found both boys suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. They both were taken to Norton Children's Hospital where they later died.
Bullitt County Sheriff's Detective Richard Beahl testified what he saw and heard the day he answered the call for a double shooting on Bentwood Drive. He said two neighbors from the same house called 911 once they heard gunshots coming from next door.
Lucas told police someone had given her a firearm, which she left in the bedroom, indicating the shooting may have been an accident. She said no one else had been inside the home.
Beahl said Lucas told police she was "in such a bad spot," and that she would "never do anything like this unless someone manipulated me," and that what happened "was an accident."
